Fulham midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah close to joining West Brom

West Bromwich Albion are closing in on a move for Fulham midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, according to the Daily Mail’s Mike Keegan.

The 28-year-old is expected to sign an 18-month deal with the Championship club.

West Brom manager Carlos Corberan wants to make top signings this month to boost his side’s promotion chances.

The Baggies are 10th in the Championship table after 28 games, but only a point separates them from the play-off places.

Finishing in the automatic promotion places seems beyond West Brom’s reach as they are 16 points adrift of the top two.

However, ending the season in the top six is possible, and quality signings this month would go a long way.

Chalobah has played just six games across all competitions for Fulham this season.

The former England youth international played 20 Championship games last term.

He featured in 38 Championship games for Watford in 2020-21, scoring three goals and claiming an assist.

Chalobah has the experience and quality that West Brom need right now.

The Chelsea academy graduate has not gone on to fulfil the potential that once earned him a cap for the England national team.

However, he still has the abilities in him, and playing regularly could do his career some good.

Fulham would be open to letting him go as he is not a key player for them.

He has also had spells in the Championship with Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Reading.

Chalobah would not likely walk straight into West Brom’s XI, but he has what it takes to be a quality option off the bench.

Albion need to bolster their squad depth if they want to gain promotion, and such a player would come in handy.
