Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt Preview – Prediction, how to watch & potential line-ups

Saturday’s Bundesliga action caps off with a top-four six-pointer between Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena.

Joshua Kimmich’s last-gasp rocket missile rescued a point for the perennial German champions in a 1-1 home draw against Koln on Tuesday, but Julian Nagelsmann cannot be proud of his side’s showings in 2023.

Bayern launched 2023 Bundesliga action with a hard-fought 1-1 stalemate at RB Leipzig on January 20 and are now only three points clear at the summit, highlighting the significance of this fixture.

Another failed attempt to land three points could throw the Bavarians’ bid to lift a record-extending 11th successive Bundesliga title into disarray, especially with their rivals building a head of steam since the restart.

Just five points separate fourth-placed Frankfurt and table-topping Bayern at the start of the round, so the visitors’ win against the odds in Munich could blow the Bundesliga title race wide open.

Oliver Glasner’s side wasted a 1-0 half-time lead at fellow top-four hopefuls Freiburg in midweek league action as Randal Kolo Mauni took his seasonal tally to six goals.

Amends for an embarrassing 6-1 defeat in the reverse fixture in August will drive Die Adler forward at the Allianz Arena, where they won their last Bundesliga encounter against Bayern 2-1.

Match Preview

Bayern Munich

Though the underwhelming draw against Koln knocked Bayern down from a four-match winning home streak in the Bundesliga, the hosts have yet to lose a top-flight game at the Allianz Arena this term (W5, D3).

Frankfurt’s weekend trip to Munich bodes well for the Bavarians’ effort to reset their title charge, with Nagelsmann’s team winning more Bundesliga meetings with Die Adler (41) than versus any other side.

However, Bayern run the risk of opening the new calendar year without a win in three straight league matches for the first time since 2007, which led to the sacking of Felix Magath.

Eintracht Frankfurt

Since a dismal 3-0 defeat at bottom-half Bochum in early October, Frankfurt have gone unbeaten on four consecutive Bundesliga travels (W2, D2) despite failing to keep a clean sheet on each occasion.

Die Adler face long odds in Munich, but their league-best unbeaten rate when priced up as the underdogs this season (W3, D1, L1) can inspire confidence in the visiting camp.

Adding to this sentiment, Glasner’s men have suffered just one loss on their eight Bundesliga road trips in 2022/23 (W4, D3), while they enjoy their best-ever points tally (31) at the halfway mark in the Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt Prediction

With star Bayern forward Sadio Mane still out and Nagelsmann’s frontline performing below expectations, this could be a presentable chance for Frankfurt to avenge last season’s double.

However, it’ll take a massive effort from Glasner’s men to become the first Bundesliga side to breach the Bavarians’ home fortress this season and we’re more inclined to believe in a share of the spoils.
