Anthony Gordon misses Everton training again to force Newcastle move

Everton winger Anthony Gordon has missed training today again as he attempts to force a transfer to Newcastle United.

According to Sky Sports, the player did not report to the training ground as he is keen on a move away from Goodison Park before Tuesday’s transfer window deadline.

Despite the absence from training, Gordon has not formally handed in a transfer request but has made it clear he wants to leave.

Newcastle are keen on signing Gordon and are prioritising him over Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech.

Everton and Newcastle are in formal talks, and Gordon is pushing to make it happen. Everton want around £60 million but may compromise for a lower figure.

Chelsea and Newcastle were interested in the player last summer, but neither party could agree a fee with the Toffees.

Everton rejected £40 million and £50m bids from Chelsea, insisting on a higher fee. The Blues refused to pay up even though the player wanted to join them.

Gordon continued his development with Everton and started brightly but has since tailed off along with his team’s form.

In his 16 Premier League appearances this campaign, Gordon has bagged three goals and created one big chance.

Gordon has not had a goal contribution in his last eight league games. Unsurprisingly, Everton have not won any of their past nine matches.

Everton have struggled on and off the pitch this season, culminating in the sacking of manager Frank Lampard with the team in the relegation zone.

The Toffees lack cohesion and struggle to score goals. They are missing Richarlison, who helped them escape the drop last season before signing for Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton will hope to receive as much money as possible for Gordon so they can reinvest to boost their hopes of avoiding relegation to the Championship.
