Chicago Fire striker Jhon Duran completes Aston Villa move

Aston Villa have announced the signing of striker Jhon Duran from Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire for an undisclosed fee.

Duran made 28 appearances for the MLS side last season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists.

His impressive campaign saw him earn a call-up to the senior Colombia squad for the first time, where he has since won three caps.

The 19-year-old will replace Danny Ings, who completed his £15 million move to West Ham United last week.

Villa will receive an initial £12m for Ings, with £3m to be added if the Hammers retain their Premier League status.

Speaking to VillaTV for the first time after completing his move, Duran elaborated on his desire to work hard and help his new side win.

“I have all the desire in the world,” he said. “Lots of desire to work hard, give everything to the team, and win. I’m hoping I can play soon.

“I’m a player that plays with a lot of passion who is dedicated to the team and a player that really wants to win always.

“I know it’s the most important league in the world. It’s the best league in the world, and I have all the desire in the world to get on the pitch and score that first goal.”

On working with his new manager, Duran added that manager Unai Emery gave him a warm welcome, and he is now looking forward to working with him.

“We have spoken – he said very touching words and gave me a huge welcome,” Duran added. “Now I can speak with him, and we can discuss everything to do with the project. It strikes me as a very good project.”

Duran is Villa’s second signing this month following Alex Moreno, who joined the Midlands outfit for a fee believed to be around £13.2m.
