Napoli have stepped up their pursuit of Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Adama Traore, submitting their first offer ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.
The Partenopei have been in contact with Traore’s representatives over the last few months, with the Spaniard falling down the pecking order at Molineux this season.
Julen Lopetegui wants Traore to be part of his project, but the winger could consider an exit due to a continued lack of game time.
According to Alfredo Pedulla, Napoli have tabled an offer worth €2.5 million per season plus bonuses to the former Barcelona star.
The Partenopei have identified Traore as a replacement for Hirving Lozano, whose deal expires in 2024.
The Mexican forward’s future at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium has been subject to much speculation as he is not manager Luciano Spalletti’s first choice.
An exit next summer is a possibility as the Partenopei’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has stated that no departures will happen in January.
Traore’s decline has been evident in recent years as he has failed to reach the levels he showed during the 2019/20 season – the campaign which saw him linked with a host of European heavyweights.
Like Lozano, Matteo Politano’s contract expires in 2024, and the Neapolitans may look to sell him next summer.
Spalletti’s men are in the race for Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi, who was one of the finds of the World Cup 2022 after his heroics with Morocco.
Leeds United and Leicester City are also in the running for Ounahi.
