Wolves join race for PSG midfielder Sarabia at Lopetegui’s request

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui has asked the club to sign wantaway Paris Saint-Germain forward Pablo Sarabia

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui has asked the club to sign wantaway Paris Saint-Germain forward Pablo Sarabia, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spaniard is keen to stamp his imprint on the Wolves team and is looking to recruit Sarabia. The pair are familiar with each other having worked together in the Spanish Under 21 team.

Sarabia has struggled to nail down a starting spot at Parc des Princes since arriving from Lopetegui’s former club Sevilla in 2019.

He racked up 22 goals and 12 assists in 98 appearances across his first two years in Paris, but game time has been hard to come by since then.

He spent the last campaign on loan at Sporting CP and showed his quality, netting 21 goals and providing ten assists in 45 games. However, his immediate future still lies away from the reigning Ligue 1 champions.

PSG’s deadly attacking trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi are indispensable except in cases of injuries. They have restricted Sarabia to just three starts of his 14 appearances this season.

Sarabia is reportedly unhappy with his limited playing time and is agitating for a move away from PSG in January. Wolves are offering an escape route for the 30-year-old forward, with Lopetegui keen to bring a familiar face to Molineux.

However, they will face competition from Serie A duo Juventus and AC Milan who have also registered interest in the forward.

Wolves have enjoyed a decent start to life under Lopetegui. They have suffered defeat only once since the 56-year-old took over, winning two and drawing three games.

Lopetegui has already snapped up Matheus Cunha on an initial loan deal from Atletico Madrid but wants more signings to bolster Wolves’ chances of avoiding relegation this term.
