Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a huge blow in their quest to secure the long-term future of youngster Youssoufa Moukoko, according to Bild.
The report claims that Moukoko has increased his wage demands and now wants a gross salary of around €8 million which is €2m less than what is currently on the table from Dortmund.
Since the departure of last season’s leading goalscorer Erling Braut Haaland to Manchester City, Moukoko has featured more regularly this term and has certainly delivered the goods.
Despite starting just eight of 15 Bundesliga games leading up to the World Cup break, Moukoko is his side’s top scorer with six league goals, while also supplying three assists in that time.
With just six months left on his existing deal, Dortmund are working towards tying him down to a new contract having been in contact with the player’s entourage over the last couple of weeks.
Moukoko has confirmed he would love to remain with BVB amid interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona.
“I feel so comfortable at BVB [Dortmund] – I love the club,” he told RND (via the Express).
“I’d really love to stay at Borussia Dortmund. I want to understand what kind of project and perspective the club will offer me – it’s an important point.”
Following an unproductive World Cup campaign with Germany in Qatar where the striker played just nine minutes, Moukoko will be eager to get back on the field.
However, he will have to wait until January 22 when Edin Terzic’s men play host to relegation-threatened FC Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park.
Before then, Dortmund will hope to have reached an agreement with Moukoko over extending his stay as the 18-year-old will be free to speak to interested teams if no breakthrough is made in the next eight days.
