Bayern Munich plot to bring back Alexander Nubel following Manuel Neuer’s injury

Bayern Munich will prioritise recalling Alexander Nubel from his loan spell at AS Monaco following a season-ending injury to Manuel Neuer.

The Bavarian club are considering several options to replace their stalwart goalkeeper, according to L’Equipe.

Neuer suffered a skiing accident that has ruled him out of action for the rest of the season. Bayern want to bring back Nubel to provide competition for Sven Ulreich.

Nubel joined Bayern in June 2020 from Schalke 04 but struggled to dislodge the German national team captain.

After a year of waiting in the wings, Nubel searched for game time elsewhere. The 26-year-old joined AS Monaco on a two-year loan deal.

He struggled in his first few months with the Ligue 1 club. There was uncertainty in his decision-making, and high-profile errors followed.

However, Nubel came into his own towards the end of the season. He has firmly established himself after beating off competition from Radoslaw Majecki.

Nubel even spoke about extending his time with Monaco beyond the loan, but those plans might change.

Neuer’s injury means his parent club may return for Nubel this January. They will have to compensate Monaco, who won’t let the player walk back for free.

Bayern are also considering a move for Dinamo Zagreb’s Dominik Livakovic. The 27-year-old is currently impressing with Croatia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

There are other rumours about a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s second-choice keeper Keylor Navas. However, a return for Nubel is the most likely option.

Bayern will weigh the cost of Nubel’s return against the price of a new signing before deciding.
