Nice consider sacking Lucien sacking despite improvement

Nice's Swiss head coach Lucien Favre reacts during the UEFA Europa Conference League Group D football match between FC Cologne and OGC Nice in Cologne, on November 3, 2022.

Lucien Favre is still unsure of his position at OGC Nice despite a return to form, according to Nice-Matin.

The club is performing better than at the beginning of the season, but the club have not shelved the idea of sacking their manager.

The start of the season was a rough patch for Nice. They started the season with a 1-1 draw against league newcomers Toulouse before another draw versus Strasbourg.

Nice then suffered consecutive losses to Clermont Foot and Olympique Marseille. In between the losses, they lost the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off match against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Nice sat 13th in Ligue 1 with only two wins from their first eight games. They progressed to the group phase of the Conference League but got off to a slow start.

INEOS spent around 70 million this summer on Nice, and they expected better results.

Favre was in danger of losing his job two months into his second stint as Nice boss as INEOS started scavenging for options.

Mauricio Pochettino was a top target to replace the former Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund boss.

However, the Argentine rejected the job. The club’s fans also rallied behind Favre, urging the club to give him more time.

They have bounced back to form in their recent games. Nice are unbeaten in seven matches, and they topped their Conference League group.

Nice are ninth in the table and should be higher. They missed out on three points when they faced Lyon at Allianz Riviera on Friday.

Former Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette won a dubious penalty and converted it to cancel Nicolas Pepe’s first-half penalty.

Despite the upturn in form, there is still a cloud over Favre’s head. The Cote d’Azur club were ready to fire Favre and have not changed their mind. They will decide during the World Cup break.
