Arsenal to hand Mikel Arteta £50 million war chest in January

Arsenal are prepared to spend £50 million in the January transfer window, according to The Sun.

Mikel Arteta’s men have made a flying start to the season with 28 points from 11 league matches. They have also booked their place in the knockout stage of the Europa League without breaking too much sweat.

However, they are not resting on their laurels and will look to strengthen their squad even further when the transfer window reopens next year.

Despite forking out a whopping £130m to acquire the services of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus, Matt Turner, Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira, Arsenal have unfinished business in the market.

Due to injuries to Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey this term, Arsenal have been down to bare bones in midfield which is an issue that needs addressing going forward.

A deadline-day swoop for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz was made, but Arsenal failed to get a deal over the line. The 25-year-old has since put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with his current employers.

This should see the Premier League leaders move on to other targets such as Moises Caicedo and Danilo. The latter is well known to Arsenal technical director Edu and could be on the move soon as the current Brasileiro season nears its completion.

Having also been linked to Pedro Neto, Yeremy Pino and Mykhaylo Mudryk last summer, the Gunners are expected to be in the market for a new winger.

In the meantime, Arsenal will aim to put together a strong run of results heading into the World Cup break, starting with tomorrow’s visit to PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League.

This is the first of six games remaining across all competitions before football’s biggest event takes centre stage.
