Cristiano Ronaldo returns to training with Manchester United first team

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to training with the first team after being axed from the squad at Chelsea

The 37-year-old is now in contention for the Red Devils’ home match against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Portuguese forward came under huge criticism after he refused to come on as a substitute in United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last week.

Ronaldo’s behaviour prompted manager Erik ten Hag to banish him from first-team training and the matchday squad at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as a punishment.

According to The Guardian, Ten Hag has been in regular contact with Ronaldo since then and has now decided the Portugal international should return to first-team training.

Dropping Ronaldo was a good decision

Ronaldo’s behaviour during the Spurs’ game was unacceptable. It was disrespectful to his manager, teammates and the club’s fans.

Ten Hag took the matter seriously and punished the forward even though he is one of the biggest football stars in the world.

That was an excellent decision from the Dutch boss, as it sent a powerful message that no player can cross certain boundaries.

Ronaldo has been a key squad member at all his previous clubs. However, he is now struggling for game time at Old Trafford.

The experienced forward has started only two matches in the Premier League this season, with Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford ahead of him in the pecking order.

He looks highly frustrated with his lack of opportunities, and that’s why he behaved the way he did against Tottenham last week.
