PSG defender Danilo Pereira to miss three weeks with hamstring injury

Paris Saint-Germain defender Danilo Pereira is set for a brief spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.

The Portuguese international came off injured during the first half of the weekend’s Ligue 1 clash against Marseille and was replaced by Nordi Mukiele.

L’Equipe claims that Danilo has an injury to his right hamstring and will be ruled out for at least three weeks, meaning he will likely miss the Champions League games against Maccabi Haifa and Juventus.

Danilo moved to the French capital in 2020 from Porto on an initial loan, which was made permanent the following summer.

He has made 93 appearances for Les Parisiens in all competitions and was part of the side that won the Ligue 1 title last season.

The 31-year-old’s absence will add to the woes of PSG’s backline, with Presnel Kimpembe already out injured and Sergio Ramos serving a suspension.

Furthermore, he faces a race against time to be fit for the World Cup 2022, which starts next month in Qatar.

Danilo has been a regular for the Portuguese national team, but Fernando Santos could leave him behind if he fails to recover in time.

Elsewhere, Christophe Galtier will look to rely on Mukiele in Danilo’s absence.

The French defender joined the Ligue 1 champions from RB Leipzig this summer, a move advocated by Luis Campos.

The 24-year-old has made 12 appearances in all competitions, playing in multiple positions including right wing-back, right-back and centre-back.

Teenage defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu may also get a look-in in the upcoming games.

PSG top the Ligue 1 table with 29 points, three points clear of Lorient. They are also lead Group H in the Champions League, having won two and drawn two in four games.
