Angel Di Maria set to be out for three weeks for Juventus

Juventus' Argentine forward Angel Di Maria (L) reacts after picking up an injury during the UEFA Champions League group H football match between Israel's Maccabi Haifa and Italy's Juventus at the Sammy Ofer stadium in the city of Haifa on October 11, 2022.

Juventus attacker Angel Di Maria is out for the next three weeks, according to a statement from the club.

The 34-year-old will miss important Champions League clashes against former clubs Saint-Germain and Benfica.

Di Maria has a low-grade lesion on his right thigh. It will jeopardise his chances of featuring in the make-or-break European games.

“Angel Di Maria underwent diagnostic tests at J|Medical this morning, which revealed a low-grade lesion to the hamstring of the right thigh,” the statement read.

“It will take around 20 days for the player’s complete recovery.”

Di Maria went off during the first half of the Bianconeri’s 2-0 loss to Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Despite his performances on the pitch for the club, the injuries keep coming. This setback is Di Maria’s third injury since arriving in Turin during the summer.

Di Maria will miss the visit to city rivals Torino this weekend and the visit from Empoli next week. He will also miss the game against Lecce.

There were questions about whether Di Maria could make it to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Those fears have dissipated with the results of his test.

He will feature for Juventus before the tournament begins so he can build match fitness. There is a possibility that Di Maria could return for the tie against Inter Milan on November 6. If not, he could return four days later against Hellas Verona.

Juventus need all the help they can get after a disastrous start to the 2022/23 campaign domestically and in Europe.

The club is looking to avoid elimination from the Champions League. They are also fighting to claw their way into the top four in Serie A.
