Matchday 8 of La Liga witnessed some great action, with Barcelona and Real Madrid getting narrow victories and Atletico Madrid producing their second straight win. We take a look at the results.
Barcelona 1-0 Celta Vigo: Pedri’s goal help Barca stay at the top
Barcelona edged out Celta Vigo 1-0 to pick up three crucial points. In what turned out to be a tricky fixture owing to Barca’s underwhelming record against the visitors in the past, Xavi’s men scraped a narrow victory after a goal from Pedri in the first half.
The Catalans were under pressure for most of the second half, but they weathered the storm with the help of great goalkeeping from Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
The victory helped them remain at the top of the La Liga table with 22 points.

Getafe 0-1 Real Madrid: Los Blancos secure narrow win
Madrid secured a 1-0 victory against Getafe, with Eder Militao’s quickfire goal making the difference.

They will face arch-rivals Barcelona in the first El Clasico of the season this weekend.
Atletico Madrid 2-1 Girona: Correa shines in Atletico’s win
Atletico were under immense pressure to deliver after their shock defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League, which further highlighted their turbulent 2022/23 campaign.
However, Los Rojiblancos returned to winning ways after beating Girona 2-1over the weekend, with Angel Correa scoring a double.
After beating Sevilla last week, Diego Simeone’s men have won consecutive league games for the first time this season.
Sevilla 1-1 Athletic Bilbao: Sevilla pick up a draw in Jorge Sampaoli’s first game
Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao played the most entertaining game of matchday 8, with both teams sharing the spoils eventually.
The Andalusian outfit, who were playing their first game under Jorge Sampaoli, started impressively, with Oliver Torres opening the account in the fourth minute.
The hosts were on the front foot during the entire first half, but excellent goalkeeping from Bilbao’s Unai Simon kept the scoreline intact.
Ernesto Valverde’s men prevented Sevilla from picking their second win of the season after Mikel Vesga scored a brilliant equaliser in the 72nd minute.
The draw ended the Basque club’s three-match winning streak. They sit fourth in the table with 17 points.
Real Sociedad 1-0 Villarreal: Brais Mendez on target as La Real continue their winning run
Real Sociedad continued their impressive run with a 1-0 victory over Villarreal, with Brais Mendez scoring the winning strike in the first half.
