Cody Gakpo not favouring a move to Leeds United

Leeds United have suffered a setback in the pursuit of PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, who is against the idea of moving to Elland Road, according to The Athletic.

The highly-rated Dutch winger was close to joining the Whites on the deadline day of the summer transfer window, but a move failed to materialise.

Leeds remain interested in the 23-year-old, who has a contract running until 2026 with the Eredivisie giants.

However, the Whites have been hit with a new stumbling block as Gakpo is having second thoughts about moving to Elland Road after growing in stature this season.

Leeds’ lacklustre form in the Premier League might be another reason he is looking to snub a move.

It allows other suitors like Manchester United and Arsenal to gain ground in the transfer race for Gakpo.

La Liga giants Real Madrid have also expressed their interest in Gakpo, who has netted 13 goals and 10 assists in all competitions this term.

Man Utd were interested in signing Gakpo this summer before they went for Brazilian winger Antony in a record deal.

The Red Devils are still keeping tabs on the Dutch youngster, who shares the same agent as Erik ten Hag.

United seem to have the edge after Gakpo revealed he was waiting for their offer in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are reportedly in the market for a winger, with Mykhaylo Mudryk and Pedro Neto also on their wishlist.

Gakpo is one of the exciting youngsters to watch out for in the World Cup, and his stock has a great chance to skyrocket if he performs well.
