Michail Antonio replaced the Italian for the final 10 minutes but added a third after a defensive mix-up in injury time. Rice was delighted with the result.
West Ham made a dismal start to the 2022-23 season, losing their opening three matches before their first win at Aston Villa.
The Hammers subsequently recorded a draw and two more losses to sour the mood at the London Stadium.
