Chelsea’s new owners called Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to assure him that he will still be vital to the club despite Thomas Tuchel’s exit, according to The Telegraph.
Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are the faces of the new Chelsea management. They have assured Aubameyang about his future.
The Gabonese striker played for Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund and scored 79 goals for the German manager. Tuchel rates Aubameyang and pushed Chelsea to sign him.
As transfer speculation about the Aubameyang deal swirled, Tuchel said (via Sky Sports): “This is totally separate from anything happening now, but I enjoyed a lot working with Auba while I was at Dortmund.
“Some players stay your players because you were very, very close. And Auba is one of those players. “There was always straight away this close bond. They always stay your players in a way.”
After joining Chelsea, Aubameyang said (via Mirror), “It will be an honour and a joy again (to play with Tuchel). We had some good times in Dortmund together, so I am really happy to play for him again. We will achieve some big things. I am sure of this and will try to help the team.”
Only a day after Aubameyang’s debut, Tuchel was sacked. However, the Chelsea bosses have called the former Arsenal and Barcelona striker to assure him about his future in the team.
Chelsea are close to appointing Graham Potter as their manager. The English manager will leave Brighton & Hove Albion to take the job.
The 47-year-old former Swansea City and Ostersunds boss will rely on Aubameyang for the season. Chelsea want Potter in the dugout for the game against Fulham on Saturday.
The Blues come up against their city rivals hoping to kickstart their season after splashing out £260 million on new players this summer.
