Leicester City in advanced talks to sign Wout Faes as Fofana replacement

Leicester City are progressing in their talks to sign Reims defender Wout Faes and are hoping to reach an agreement, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The Foxes have been in the market for a centre-back after agreeing to sell Wesley Fofana to Chelsea in a lucrative deal, identifying Faes as a primary target.

Romano also adds that Leicester have agreed personal terms with the Belgian defender on a five-year deal until 2027.

Leicester are yet to make a signing in the summer transfer window bar Alex Smithies’ free transfer.

They are looking to end the drought by snapping up Faes, who had been previously pursued by Serie A club Torino but to no avail.

The Foxes were also looking at Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji, however Premier League champions Manchester City have jumped the queue, with talks ongoing to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.

Considered a top talent, Faes has shown brilliant progress over the last couple of years in Ligue 1, making 77 appearances in all competitions for Reims.

His impressive form also caught the attention of Belgium national team manager Roberto Martinez, who gave him his debut in the Nations League game against Poland.

Belgian outlet HLN reports that the transfer fee could be slightly higher than €12 million, which is an absolute coup for the Foxes considering Faes’ potential.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have experienced the worst start to the new Premier League season, currently sitting at the bottom of the table with a draw and three defeats in four games.
