PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi steps in to unlock Milan Skriniar transfer

Milan Skriniar on the ball for Inter Milan

Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi will step into transfer negotiations to sign Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, according to Foot Mercato.

PSG have been trying to sign the Slovakian international since the beginning of the summer but have struggled to bring down Inter’s high valuation of the player.

The Qatari business mogul and chairman of beIN Media Group has left negotiations to Antero Henrique.

However, the experienced director has failed to sign the 27-year-old, leading Al-Khelaifi to step in to complete the transfer with only two days left before the transfer window closes.

Sporting director Luis Campos and coach Christophe Galtier want the player at the Parc des Princes despite the signing of Nordi Mukiele from RB Leipzig.

PSG still want to recruit players for their midfield and defence before the window closes on Thursday. Skriniar is the priority for the backline, but they have faced resistance from the Milan club.

Inter want to save face and do not want to lose one of their top stars amid fan criticisms. The Nerazzurri have changed their demands from €70 million to €90m.

PSG have no intention of paying such a large sum for a player in the final year of his contract. They are only willing to go as high as €55m.

Al-Khelaifi has taken over the negotiations and will speak with Inter president Steven Zhang to unlock the transfer.

Inter have reportedly decided to stop listening to offers for Skriniar. They have instead decided to keep him at the club.

This decision does not mean that PSG can no longer pursue a deal with the former Sampdoria defender. Les Parisiens still hope to make a move before the transfer window closes.

If PSG fail to sign Skriniar, the Ligue 1 champions will move for AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi. Campos likes the French youth international’s profile and wants to sign him.
