West Ham agree whopping £50m transfer fee for Lyon star

West Ham United have agreed a huge £50 million transfer fee for Olympique Lyonnais star Lucas Paqueta, according to Sky Sports

The Ligue 1 club turned down the Hammers’ two earlier bids but the Premier League outfit have now reached an agreement for the 24-year-old.

The Brazilian has earned rave reviews in France since he joined Les Gones from AC Milan in 2020.

He has made 80 appearances across all competitions for Lyon, scoring 21 goals and creating 14 assists.

His performances attracted the attention of several top European clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

However, West Ham have won the race for the Brazil international who currently has three years remaining on his contract.

The Irons have made a poor start to the new season and need reinforcements. They have lost all three league matches and are currently bottom of the table.

Signing Paqueta is a coup

The Hammers have paid a huge fee for Paqueta but the Brazilian looks worth every penny. They have managed to pull off a coup by signing him.

He mainly plays as an attacking midfielder but can also be deployed on either wing. He is known for his excellent technique, pace and goalscoring ability.

Paqueta bagged 11 goals and seven assists in 44 appearances across all competitions last season.

He also averaged 2.5 shots, 1.2 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game in Ligue 1 last term (as per WhoScored).
