Liverpool vs Bournemouth Preview – Prediction, how to watch & potential line-ups

Out-of-sorts Liverpool play host to warm relegation candidates Bournemouth at Anfield in Saturday’s must-win Premier League fixture.

Three matchdays into the new Premier League season and the Reds have yet to win a single game, marking Jurgen Klopp’s worst start to a new top-flight campaign since his arrival in 2015.

Following last season’s busted quadruple pursuit, many regarded Liverpool as the leading candidates to win the Premier League title alongside Manchester City.

However, Klopp’s men followed up a brace of scoring draws with Fulham and Crystal Palace with an underwhelming 2-1 defeat at long-standing rivals Manchester United on Monday.

Amid a mounting injury list and a series of lacklustre performances, Liverpool will be looking to restore some confidence against newly-promoted Bournemouth.

Scott Parker’s side claimed a morale-boosting 2-0 home victory over Aston Villa on the opening weekend but have since suffered back-to-back league losses without scoring to Arsenal and Man City, respectively.

Match Preview

Liverpool

With Liverpool’s title aspirations already being written off on the back of a poor start to the season, the Merseyside powerhouse will be out to prove their doubters wrong.

Though the Reds will have to do it without marquee summer signing Darwin Nunez, who’s serving a red-card suspension, a six-game winning Premier League streak against Bournemouth fills them with confidence.

In one of the most winnable Liverpool fixtures in August, Klopp’s men cannot afford another woeful performance if they are to void going winless in their opening four Premier League games for the second time in history.

Bournemouth

Saturday’s trip to Anfield is not the kind of Bournemouth fixtures in which the Cherries should be seeking points, though, in the hyper-reactive world of modern football, anything is possible.

Playing away from home often spells trouble for Bournemouth, as they’ve lost 13 of their last 15 Premier League games on the road (W2).

That’s unlikely to change, considering they’ve lost seven of their eight visits to Anfield across all competitions (D1).

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Potential Line-ups

Liverpool (4-3-3): Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Harvey Elliott, Fabinho; Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Robert Firmino.

Bournemouth (3-4-2-1): Mark Travers; Chris Mepham, Jefferson Lerma, Lloyd Kelly; Adam Smith, Lewis Cook, Ben Pearson, Jordan Zemura; Marcus Tavernier, Ryan Christie; Kieffer Moore.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Prediction

Nunez’s silly red card against Palace is still one of the headline topics in the Liverpool news, but the Reds should be unfazed by the Uruguayan’s absence if they are to get back on the rails.

Anything other than the hosts’ victory in this one could put the final nail in the Merseysiders’ coffin as long as their title pursuit is concerned.

Therefore, we back Klopp’s team to thrive in front of the full-packed Anfield.
