AS Roma to rival Juventus for PSG midfielder Leandro Paredes

AS Roma have joined the race with fellow Serie A rivals Juventus for the signing of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.

Juve have been tracking the Argentine midfielder for months in the summer transfer window, with several reports claiming that personal terms have also been agreed.

Their need for a new midfielder has increased following the injury to new signing Paul Pogba, who returned to Turin on a free transfer after six years.

The Old Lady are plotting a loan move for Paredes, but Giallorossi are looking to pounce if the deal falls through.

The Italian capital club are interested in reuniting with Paredes, who had an underwhelming spell at Stadio Olimpico between 2014 and 2017.

Jose Mourinho has been forced to look into the market again for a new midfielder following the latest injury setback to new signing Georginio Wijnaldum.

The Dutch midfielder is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after fracturing the tibia on his right leg during training.

With a loan deal on the cards for Marseille striker Arkadiusz Milik, Juve’s next priority is bringing in a new midfielder, with Paredes the priority for Max Allegri.

Paredes is down the pecking order at Parc des Princes, and he is desperate for an exit to revive his career.

Signing the Copa America 2021 winner would be another statement of intent from Mourinho’s side, but they have to battle Juve first.

Giallorossi are also in the market for a striker, with former Torino striker and free agent Andrea Belotti on the top of the wishlist.
