AS Roma are interested in bringing in another midfielder this summer and have enquired about Juventus star Denis Zakaria, reports Goal Italia.
Roma want to sign the player on a season-long loan but are still working on the right formula to approach the deal.
The club has only four midfielders – Nemanja Matic, Bryan Cristante, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Edoardo Bove – for two central midfield positions.
Jose Mourinho has completely refused to take Amadou Diawara into consideration. The Guinean midfielder is out of the first team picture at the Stadio Olimpico.
Roma signed Georginio Wijnaldum from Paris Saint-Germain, but the player has suffered a fracture to his tibia.
Wijnaldum will be out of action for months, sending the club back into the market for another midfielder.
The club is studying the possibility of signing one of Zakaria, Sasa Lukic of Torino, Harry Winks of Tottenham Hotspur or Nahitan Nandez of Cagliari.
Roma targeted Zakaria before Juventus secured the player and have now reopened their interest in signing the Switzerland international.
Mourinho appreciates the player’s profile and will encourage club boss Tiago Pinto to move for him.
Juventus do not consider Zakaria untouchable. Despite signing the 25-year-old midfielder only six months ago for €4.5 million from Borussia Monchengladbach, they could let him leave.
He has made only 14 appearances for the Turin club, scoring one and assisting one.
Juventus will also consider the deal if it allows them to sign Leandro Paredes from PSG.
They have been plotting a move for the Argentine midfielder throughout this summer. However, Juventus have been unable to complete the deal. Zakaria’s departure will give Juventus the space to sign Paredes.
AS Monaco have also shown interest in Zakaria but the Giallorossi are keener on him.
A midfielder is imperative for Roma right now. They will move to secure one before the close of the transfer window in ten days.
