Nottingham Forest in talks with Tottenham Hotspur to sign Sergio Reguilon

Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to Tottenham Hotspur outcast Sergio Reguilon

Nottingham Forest are considering a loan move for out-of-favour Tottenham Hotspur left-back Sergio Reguilon, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein

Forest have heavily reinforced their squad this summer but still want to sign a left-back before the transfer window closes.

They are looking for someone to cover for their injured new signing Omar Richards, who is sidelined with a hairline leg fracture.

Forest had enquired about the availability of Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri but appear to have been beaten to the Italy international by West Ham United.

They have now turned their attention to the Tottenham outcast, and talks are believed to have taken place in recent weeks between the clubs.

Although it is unclear whether the switch will materialise as the Spaniard is on high wages in north London, it remains a possibility as the left-back has been deemed surplus to requirements.

Reguilon had been a regular for Spurs after joining for around €30 million from Real Madrid in 2020. He made 67 appearances and contributed two goals and nine assists.

However, Spurs manager Antonio Conte has preferred Ryan Sessegnon recently, and the addition of Ivan Perisic to the squad means the Spaniard is no longer in the frame.

Reguilon recently returned from injury and is close to being match fit. It is believed Spurs would want his salary covered in full before they sanction a loan move.

Reguilon’s enormous salary demands is one of the conditions that have hampered his move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

His former club Sevilla, where he spent the 2019/20 season on loan from Madrid, had initially been interested in taking him back to Spain, while Atalanta, Lazio and Villarreal were also keen.

However, Forest have now jumped to the head of the queue as they look to continue their impressive summer spending spree.
