Sampdoria vs Juventus Preview – Prediction, how to watch & line-ups

Injury-hit Juventus take a trip to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to encounter underachieving Sampdoria in Monday’s Serie A fixture.

Tipped for a season-long struggle in the bottom half of the table, Sampdoria fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Atalanta on the opening weekend.

Marco Giampaolo’s side spent most of last season embroiled in the relegation fight yet ultimately finished 15th.

However, after a poor transfer window, Sampdoria seem unlikely to challenge for a top-half finish for the first time since 2020/21.

Faced with the prospect of losing back-to-back home league matches ‘to nil’ for the first time since 2015, La Samp will be out to overcome their dismal recent record against Juventus.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men have seemingly grown tired of lagging behind AC Milan and Inter Milan, as evidenced by their emphatic 3-0 home win over Sassuolo on the opening weekend.

Veteran winger Angel Di Maria was on the scoresheet on his Bianconeri debut, while one of the most expensive Serie A signings, Dusan Vlahovic, chipped in with a brace.

After finishing four in the last two Serie A seasons, the record-time Italian champions are hellbent on landing their 37th top-flight crown and have made a substantial effort in the transfer window to strengthen that bid.

In addition to Di Maria, Gleison Bremer, Filip Kostic and Paul Pogba have joined Juventus over the summer to provide Allegri with enough ammunition to take the Scudetto back to Turin.

Match Preview

Sampdoria

As mentioned above, Sampdoria have struggled against Juventus lately, losing their last six league encounters, five of which via multi-goal margins.

Having lost their last six Serie A games against Juve, La Samp stare down the barrel of a four-game losing H2H streak in Italy’s elite competition for the first time in the club’s history.

In order to avoid that piece of unwanted history, Sampdoria would likely have to arrest a run of two scoreless league outings.

Signs are ominous for Giampaolo, as the last time his side went three Serie A fixtures without scoring, Vincenzo Montella was relieved of his duties in 2016.

Juventus

A potential victory at Luigi Ferraris may set the tone for another triumphant Serie A season for Juventus. The last eight times Allegri’s men won their opening two top-flight games of a new campaign, they lifted the title.

There’s a good probability that the Bianconeri will take home all three points, considering they’ve won their last three league visits to Sampdoria, including two in a row via a two-goal margin.

However, it’s worth noting that Juventus lost their final two away league matches at the tail-end of last season, conceding precisely twice on each occasion.

Sampdoria vs Juventus Prediction

Sampdoria were no match for Atalanta on matchday one, and we expect them to maintain that trend against Juventus.

With Vlahovic keen to lift the coveted Capocannoniere award after falling agonisingly short of Lazio’s Ciro Immobile last season, we back the visitors to add to their three-goal tally this term.

Sampdoria 0-2 Juventus
