Ajax reject €80 million bid for Antony from Manchester United

Antony raises an eyebrow while making a sign

Ajax have rejected a bid of €80 million from Manchester United for right-winger Antony, according to The Athletic.

United submitted their offer on Wednesday, but it was rejected with the Dutch club eager to keep Antony.

Man Utd have been trying to sign Antony since the beginning of the transfer window. However, after a fruitless first chase, they moved on to other targets.

They have now returned for the Brazilian after failing with those other targets.

Erik Ten Hag is keen on reuniting with the player he managed at Ajax.

The United manager is desperate for new attackers to refresh his frontline and is trying to get his new club to sign Antony.

United are not too optimistic about their chances of signing Antony after Ajax rebuffed their latest approach for the player.

It is unclear if the Red Devils will come back with an improved bid because Ajax want to keep the player.

However, an offer in the region of €100m will get the Eredivisie club back to the negotiating table.

The 22-year-old is a talent many top clubs have been monitoring since his time at Sao Paulo.

He moved to Ajax in 2020. In his first season in Europe, he recorded ten goals and ten assists in 48 appearances. He followed it up with 12 goals and ten assists last season.

Antony is also a full Brazilian international. He made his debut in 2021 and has made nine appearances for the Selecao, scoring two and assisting two.

With Ajax quoting an exorbitant fee for Antony, United may have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

The club is eyeing a swoop for PSV Eindhoven captain and talisman Cody Gakpo, while there are also rumours about a move for Napoli winger Hirving Lozano.
