Fulham exploring the possibility of signing Willian on a free transfer

Fulham are exploring a move for former Chelsea and Arsenal winger Willian, according to The Athletic reporter Peter Rutzler.

Willian terminated his contract with his boyhood club SC Corinthians after just a year with the Brazilian side and could return to Europe this summer. 

The 34-year-old enjoyed a fruitful spell at Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during his seven-year-stay at Stamford Bridge.

He moved across London and signed a three-year deal with Arsenal in 2020 after failing to agree a new contract with the Blues. 

However, after an underwhelming debut campaign where he scored just once and assisted seven times in 37 appearances, he terminated his contract by mutual consent.

Willian struggled to assert himself back in Brazil, scoring just once and providing six assists in 45 appearances for Corinthians. 

He has complained about online abuse while his family struggled to adapt to their return to South America.

After living in Europe for 14 years, they were keen to return to London after suffering in Brazil. 

Fulham are now considering a move to bring the experienced winger back to London this summer.

The Brazil international is expected at the club’s training ground later today to agree to a permanent move on a free transfer.

Marco Silva is eager to bolster his attacking options after losing Harry Wilson and new loan signing Manor Solomon to knee injuries.

Wilson is set to miss around ten games for Fulham, while Solomon is unlikely to return before the World Cup in Qatar.

Willian will bring plenty of experience to Craven Cottage, having made over 250 Premier League appearances for Chelsea and Arsenal. He also has 70 caps for Brazil.

Fulham are also working on a deal to sign Justin Kluivert from Roma. The Dutchman has already agreed to join the Cottagers if both clubs reach an agreement.
