Former Manchester United flop Alexis Sanchez is set to join Olympique Marseille after the termination of his contract at Inter Milan, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The reputed journalist has claimed that the 33-year-old’s move to the Orange Velodrome will be completed next week. He is poised to pen a deal that will keep him at the French outfit until June 2024.
The Chilean has struggled for minutes at the San Siro in the last few seasons.
The experienced forward was mostly used as a substitute by both Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi. He made only seven starts in Serie A last season, earning 866 total minutes.
However, he is now set to join Marseille where he can expect to get more opportunities. Inter will be looking to get his wages off their books with this transfer.
Igor Tudor’s side have been very active this summer, signing several high-profile players including Pau Lopez, Matteo Guendouzi, Arkaduisz Milik and Luis Suarez.
Sanchez’s career peaked at Arsenal but he badly flopped at United and Inter
The Chile international reached the peak of his career at Arsenal, where he consistently scored goals and created assists.
In 166 appearances across all competitions, he registered 80 goals and 45 assists between 2014 and 2017 at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Sanchez failed to make the same impact when he joined Manchester United in January 2018. Despite being given plenty of opportunities, the forward failed to produce good results and was eventually loaned out to Inter in the summer of 2019.
The 33-year-old looked promising during the loan spell and the Nerazzurri decided to hand him a permanent contract.
However, things didn’t work out very well as he failed to convince Conte and Inzaghi to give him regular minutes.
