Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo close to Valencia move

Valencia are closing in on a deal to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Brazilian has failed to make his mark in Italy since joining from Barcelona in a swap deal that saw Miralem Pjanic move the other way in 2020, and a return to Spain now seems imminent.

Since arriving in Turin, Arthur has made 63 appearances for the Italian giants, but he is less suited to Massimiliano Allegri’s style of play than he was to either Maurizio Sarri or Andrea Pirlo’s.

With the Qatar World Cup on the horizon, the 25-year-old is keen on a move that will guarantee him the minutes he needs to potentially earn a place in Tite’s squad for the Brazilian national team.

Allegri has bolstered his midfield options with Paul Pogba’s arrival, but the Frenchman has been sidelined for at least eight weeks with a torn meniscus.

Despite Pogba’s injury, Arthur has been deemed surplus to requirement and was not involved in the club’s pre-season tour. He would be the second midfielder to leave Turin following Aaron Ramsey’s departure.

The Brazilian’s search for regular playing time has picked the interest of Los Che, who have swooped in for his signature in recent weeks.

Valencia boss Gennaro Gattuso feels the player’s profile fits his system and is keen on bringing him to the Mestalla Stadium.

Arsenal were leading the race for the Brazilian, but transfer talks with the north London club have gone cold in recent months, leaving Valencia in pole position to sign the Brazilian.

It remains to be seen whether Los Che will propose a loan deal or a permanent one with Arthur’s wages too much for the Spanish side to cover.

However, negotiations between both clubs are ongoing, and a deal could be reached as early as next week.
