Atalanta set to sign Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig after impressive Leicester City loan

Atalanta are set to complete the signing of Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig, as per Gianluca Di Marzio.

The club has agreed personal terms with the player and talks are in the final stages.

After breaking through at Charlton Athletic and earning rave reviews, Lookman’s progress stalled at Everton under Sam Allardyce.

Despite sealing a permanent move to Leipzig via a successful loan, Lookman’s time in Germany did not continue on an upward trajectory as expected.

Lookman was sent on loan to Fulham for the 2020/21 season. He scored four goals and created nine big chances in the league, but the Cottagers were relegated.

The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Leicester City. He scored six goals and created one big chance in 16 Premier League starts.

Lookman will be able to get some continuity at Atalanta. The former England U21 international needs to start performing consistently.

Lookman could find that under Gian Piero Gasperini. He will be in direct competition for a starting spot with former Chelsea youngster Jeremie Boga.

After three exciting seasons in Serie A, Boga produced a disappointing 2021/22 campaign. He only started 15 games, but it was not his most productive season.

Boga did not score any Serie A goals and only created three big chances. However, he did suffer some injuries and disruptions during the campaign.

Surprisingly, Leicester did not decide to sign Lookman permanently as he impressed during his 12 months at the King Power Stadium.

Atalanta are getting a rapid and direct attacker whose decision-making lets him down sometimes. He will be a great option for La Dea to have.
