Manchester have confirmed their third arrival of the summer window with Lisandro Martinez joining the club from Ajax.
United fended off competition from fellow Premier League outfit Arsenal to secure the services of Martinez after a series of negotiations with the Eredivisie champions.
An agreement was eventually reached over the transfer of the Argentine defender, but that was subject to medicals and visa requirements which have now been completed.
Martinez has put pen to paper on a five-year deal until 2027 with the option to extend for a further 12 months.
The 24-year-old expressed his delight to have moved to the red half of Manchester and is already looking forward to the upcoming season.
“It is an honour to join this great football club,” Martinez told United’s official website.
“I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment – now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career, and that’s what I want to continue at Manchester United.
“There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that, under this manager and coaches, and together with my new teammates, we can do it.
“I want to thank Ajax and their fans for all the support they gave me.
“I had an unbelievable time there but feel the moment is right to test myself in another environment, and now I am at the perfect club to do this.”
Martinez is primarily a left-sided centre-back, although he could also be deployed at left-back and in the middle of the park.
His versatility is sure to come in handy for Erik ten Hag, who knows plenty about him following their time together at Ajax.
Having bolstered their options at the heart of the defence, United are expected to continue their pursuit of reinforcement in other areas of the pitch before the window runs out as Frenkie de Jong and Antony remain prime targets at Old Trafford.
