Atletico Madrid aiming to sign Ronaldo by offloading Griezmann

Atletico Madrid are reportedly trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo by offloading Antoine Griezmann, according to The Times

The 37-year-old has made it clear that he wants to leave Old Trafford this season, and he has been heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid recently.

Despite spending nine years at Real Madrid, the Portuguese star is said to be open to joining their arch-rivals this summer.

Diego Simeone’s side are reportedly trying to make space in their squad for signing the experienced forward by offloading Griezmann. They want to get the Frenchman off of their wage bill in order to finance a deal for Ronaldo.

The former Real Sociedad star is currently entering the second season of his two-year loan from Barcelona, with the deal containing an obligatory permanent transfer clause worth €40 million.

Bizarre move

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to play Champions League football and that’s why he is ready to leave Manchester United who finished sixth in the Premier League last season.

However, he is open to joining even Atletico Madrid in order to play in the European competition is a little hard to understand.

He spent nine years at Real Madrid and during that time, he scored more goals against them than almost any other team in Spain

Ronaldo also had a difficult relationship with the fans of Los Rojiblancos.

In a 2019 match against them, he even gestured that he had lifted five Champions League trophies. That was the time when he was at Juventus and he had played the main role in helping the Serie A giants knockout Atletico Madrid.

His crotch-grabbing goal celebration is also likely to be vivid in the memory of the supporters who are unlikely to accept him if he moves to the Metropolitano Stadium.
