Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho is set to leave the club this summer. Betis have strengthened their squad following the signings of Willian Jose and Luiz Henrique.
However, they still want to bring in Hector Bellerin, Dani Ceballos and Houssem Aouar. Those moves hinge on outgoing deals as Los Verdiblancos must sell before they can enter the transfer market again.
Carvalho is one of those the club has made available for sale. He has just a year left on his contract at the Benito Villamarin. Despite being a useful squad member, Betis would rather sell now than lose him on a free next summer.
Betis have tried to use the Portuguese midfielder as a makeweight in their push to sign Aouar (L’Equipe). However, that deal is still on standby as the Frenchman is not entirely keen on the move. Aouar feels he can get a top club.
Despite being a talented, physically strong, imposing defensive midfielder, Carvalho is surplus to requirements at Betis. The Portuguese midfielder is not short of suitors, with several clubs lining up for his signature.
Newly promoted Serie A side Monza have looked at the 30-year-old but are yet to submit an official bid. Turkish sides Fenerbahce and Galatasaray also hold a long-term interest, but nothing is advanced yet.

Carvalho has racked up six goals and ten assists in 135 games since joining Real Betis in 2018. The Spanish club is holding out for a fee of around €10 million for the 2016 European Championship winner.
Betis have improved tremendously since the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini in August 2020. The Chilean gaffer guided Los Verdiblancos to a sixth place finish in his debut campaign – a massive improvement from their 15th place finish the previous season.
Last season, they recorded their highest league finish in over a decade after finishing fifth. Pellegrini’s side also won the Copa Del Rey after beating Valencia on penalties, their first trophy in 17 years.
