Manchester City have official bid ready for Marc Cucurella

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have an official bid ready for Brighton and Hove Albion star Marc Cucurella.

The Citizens want to sign the 23-year-old as a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko who is set to join Arsenal for  £30 million.

The Seagulls reportedly want around £50million to let him leave the Amex but Pep Guardiola’s side are unwilling to meet that valuation.

Cucurella joined Brighton last summer from Getafe in a deal worth £15.4million.

The young left-back was outstanding for the Seagulls last season as he made 39 appearances across all competitions at the Amex.

He averaged an impressive 2.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 1.9 clearances in the English top-flight last campaign (as per WhoScored).

Not worth £50m

If Zinchenko leaves Manchester City, Joao Cancelo could be deployed at left-back as he played in that position during the 2021-22 season.

The Citizens could also use Nathan Ake who will be staying at the Manchester club after Chelsea refused to meet their valuation.

But since none of the two are natural left-backs, it makes sense that they are trying to secure the services of Cucurella.

However, £50million is a enormous fee for a player who had just one impressive season in the Premier League. He is young and full of potential but City could land a better alternative for such a fee.

It looks Brighton are not interested in selling the 23-year-old and setting such a high valuation is their way of saying that.

The Sky Blues are unlikely to fork out such an amount and so Cucurella is expected to remain at the Falmer Stadium this season.
