Ajax are weighing up a move for Manchester United right-back Ethan Laird, according to reports from Gerjan Hamstelaar.
Having seen several players exit the Johan Cruyff Arena, the Eredivisie champions are begging to plug the holes in their squad as they prepare for yet another title defence.
The likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Noussair Mazraoui, Sebastien Haller and Lisandro Martinez have all jumped ship this summer following their stellar performance in the title-winning run last term.
The Amsterdam outfit have dived into the market for reinforcements, with the duo of Owen Wijndal and 24-year-old forward Steven Bergwijn arriving from AZ Alkmaar and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
Ajax have now identified Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird as a potential summer target as they look to bolster their options at right-back.
Laird, who joined the Old Trafford outfit at 10 years old, put on a string of impressive appearances in the academy before earning his senior debut in the Europa League clash with Astana in November 2019.
However, he has since struggled to pin down a regular role in the senior team, spending loan spells with Milton Keynes Dons, Swansea City and Bournemouth.
Off the back of a fine stint in the Championship last season, interest in Laird is believed to be high, with Ajax preparing a loan offer with an option to buy in a bid to fend off competition for his signature.
After penning a contract extension in 2020, Ethan Laird has 12 months remaining on his current deal with Manchester United, who have an option to extend for another year.
The 20-year-old is currently with the Red Devils’ pre-season squad and has featured in two of their three games, including an impressive 45-minute cameo in the 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory.
