Barcelona agree fee with Manchester City for Bernardo Silva

Barcelona and Manchester City have reached an agreement for Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, reports Gerard Romero.

Silva has been one of Man City’s standout players since arriving from Monaco back in 2017. In his five seasons at the Etihad Stadium, he has made 251 appearances in all competitions, scoring 48 goals.

His achievements don’t stop there. The Portuguese has been selected in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year twice, and has been named as Man City’s Player of the Year once. These contributions have helped the club to four Premier League titles, four Carabao Cups, and one FA Cup.

On top of this, the playmaker has become an important player on the international stage. He has earned 70 caps for the Portugal national team, and was named as Player of the Tournament when they won the UEFA Nations League in 2019.

Silva’s time at the Cityzens could be coming to an end very soon. According to journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona have had a bid of under €80 million accepted for the 27-year-old.

It’s already been a very busy summer at the Camp Nou. Raphinha signed from Leeds United for an estimated €60m, and Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen arrived on free transfers.

Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho’s stint in Catalonia ended as he made the permanent switch to Aston Villa. Adama Traore’s loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers expired, and Dani Alves was released.

La Blaugrana will be hoping to get back to the top of the La Liga table, having not lifted the title since 2019. In that time, they have failed to progress past the quarter-finals of the Champions League, exiting in the group stages last time.

As for Man City, this move will see another one of their attacking players depart, following the sales of Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus. Erling Braut Haaland and Julian Alvarez have arrived, but another winger may be necessary to fill the gaps.
