Manchester United agree €85 million deal for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United have reached full agreement with Barcelona over the transfer of Frenkie de Jong, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The La Liga heavyweights have reportedly accepted a €75 million deal plus €10m in add-ons for the Dutch international, who is now subject to agreeing personal terms with the Red Devils.

De Jong has been Manchester United’s primary target in the summer transfer window as newly-appointed manager Erik Ten Hag strengthens his squad for the upcoming season.

The former Ajax head coach has been tasked with restoring the glory days in the red half of Manchester after the club secured a disappointing sixth-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

Ten Hag, who has identified the centre of the park as a key area needing strengthening, is keen on a reunion with Frenkie die Jong following their time together in the Eredivisie.

While the 25-year-old midfielder has been heavily touted to join the Old Trafford outfit this summer, the move has stalled as the Red Devils and the Catalan side failed to reach an agreement.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was quick to debunk rumours of a potential exit for De Jong, stressing the former Ajax man was not for sale.

“[Frenkie De Jong] is a Barca player. And unless we feel the need or the interest to sell him we won’t do it. Frenkie de Jong isn’t for sale. We know he has offers. And if at a given moment we are interested in selling him then we would think about it,” Laporta said via Sky Sports.

However, it appears that De Jong could soon be a Manchester United player after the Old Trafford outfit recently reached an agreement over a potential €85m deal.

While a deal has been struck between the clubs, Ten Hag’s side are yet to agree personal terms with the Dutchman, who is reportedly keen to remain at Barcelona.

Frenkie De Jong made 32 appearances in the La Liga last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists to help the Blaugrana secure a second-placed finish.
