Celtic on the cusp of signing PSG prodigy Edouard Michut

Defending Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Paris Saint-Germain whizz-kid Edouard Michut.

As per Fabrizio Romano, the Hoops have accelerated their pursuit of the 19-year-old phenomenon.

PSG are reportedly inclined to green-light the move following the Scottish side’s opening bid of €2.5million.

Negotiations have yet to gain momentum, but the Bhoys will soon submit an official for the French prodigy.

Romano’s report contrasts the recent statement from Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, who has categorically denied any interest in Michut.

“Yeah, good player, but no,” the 56-year-old told the Daily Record

“I have an interest in every good footballer in the world, but there is a limited market which I can tap into,” he finished.

Michut wants out of PSG

In 2016, the technically-gifted playmaker left his boyhood team Versailles to link up with Paris’ youth ranks at the age of 13.

He has since clocked up 18 appearances for the club across their senior and youth sides, managing one goal and an assist.

But he has only made eight senior appearances for Les Parisiens over the past two seasons.

Aware of his limited opportunities to make a name for himself in France’s capital, Michut has already requested permission to leave the club this summer.

Why Celtic?

Over the years, the Bhoys have proved a fertile ground to nurture raw talents and turn them into influential senior stars.

From Victor Wanyama through Stuart Armstrong to Virgil van Dijk, Celtic have developed some of the finest Premier League talents across the past seven years.

Let’s not forget that Celtic sold Moussa Dembele to Lyon for €22m in 2018, having acquired his services for free only two years before.

Most recently, Parkhead has witnessed the departures of Karamoko Dembele, Luca Connell, Kerr McInroy and Ewan Henderson, among others.

There is no denying that the 52-time Scottish Premiership champions have become a factory of talents, hence Michut’s readiness to move to Glasgow.

After winning nine successive top-flight titles in Scotland, Celtic surrendered the crown to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in 2020/21.

However, it took them one year to get back to winning ways and regain domestic supremacy under the stewardship of Postecoglou last term.

Fresh from another triumphant domestic campaign, Celtic have launched a packed off-season fixture schedule with two wins from three.

The Bhoys will feature in three more pre-season friendlies before kicking off their defending league campaign in late July.

Celtic’s 2022/23 Scottish Premiership fixtures get underway on July 31 as they welcome Aberdeen to Celtic Park.

Postecoglou wants to put his affairs in order as soon as possible to be able to build the chemistry within his squad before the beginning of the new season.

Getting his hands on Michut is a priority for the time being as he sees the super-talented Frenchman as an ideal signing for the present and future.

A relatively light competition for midfield places in Glasgow would help the prodigious playmaker fit into Postecoglou’s first-team set-up in no time.
