Jurgen Klopp reflects on Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool debut against Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp has claimed that he is satisfied with Darwin Nunez’s first outing in a Liverpool shirt.

The Uruguayan was a second-half substitute against Manchester United in yesterday’s friendly in Thailand which ended in Erik ten Hag’s men running out 4-0 winners thanks to strikes from Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri.

Nunez squandered what was probably Liverpool’s biggest chance to get on the score sheet three minutes from time as he blazed over from point-blank range after Mohamed Salah’s rebound off the woodwork fell to him.

However, Klopp remains adamant that liked what he saw from his big-money signing at the Rajamangala Stadium.

“It was his third session since arriving for pre-season training and I think after the third sprint his lungs were nearly ready to explode,” the German tactician was quoted saying by The Metro.

“We nearly killed him these balls but he offered the runs and the boys wanted to pass the ball, that is for sure one of his strengths.

“He was dangerous, all these kinds of things – I think his profile is a proper number nine so that’s helpful with speed and aggression and using his body, all these kinds of things.”

Looking to bounce back from a heavy defeat at the hands of their biggest rivals, Nunez and his teammates have landed in Singapore for the next leg of their tour of Asia which sees them face off against another Premier League outfit in Crystal Palace.

Liverpool then jet off to Germany for two consecutive friendlies at the Red Bull Arena against RB Leipzig on the 21st and 27th of July before the Community Shield against Manchester City three days later at Wembley where both teams will be looking to pick up the first available piece of silverware of the new season.
