Chelsea weighing up a bid for Presnel Kimpembe

Chelsea are plotting a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe, according to a recent report from Daily Mail.

The Blues have been left a tad short of options at the back following the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen but they are now on the verge of adding two new centre-backs to their ranks.

Talks to sign Manchester City’s Nathan Ake are already at an advanced stage, while Kalidou Koulibaly is also closing in on a move to west London.

However, with Cesar Azpilicueta also likely to depart Stamford Bridge in the current window, Thomas Tuchel is still seeking further defensive reinforcement ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and a reunion with one of his ex-players now looks to be on the cards.

Kimpembe is facing an uncertain future with PSG, who are lining up a move for Milan Skriniar, and the Frenchman will be reportedly allowed to leave the Parc des Princes for around €50 million this summer.

That fee is not expected to be a problem for Chelsea as the Premier League side are all but resigned to losing out to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt.

Meanwhile, Jules Kounde has also been linked with a switch to Chelsea since as far back as last summer but a move has failed to materialise majorly due to Sevilla’s high asking price for the defender.

While there have been reports of Tuchel potentially switching to a back-four system, acquiring three new defenders would largely hint that the German manager is ready to stick with his usual 3-4-3 formation as he oversees his second full season at the helm of affairs.

Chelsea are currently in Los Angeles for the start of their pre-season tour which kicks off with a clash against Mexican outfit Club America on Saturday.
