Jorginho delivers verdict on his Chelsea future

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has thrown his future at Stamford Bridge into doubt despite reiterating his love for the club.

Several Serie A sides, including Juventus and Napoli, are keen to take advantage of the 30-year-old’s contractual situation in west London to bring him back to Italy this summer.

Jorginho’s contract runs until 2023, but the Pensioners have yet to offer him a new deal despite his importance to Thomas Tuchel’s tactical set-up.

As Chelsea’s designated penalty taker, the Italy international tallied nine goals from 47 appearances last season, maintaining his status as an indispensable first-team member.

It appears that the player is happy to stay put and honour his contract, though the Blues’ hesitation over tempting him to sign a new one could change things by the end of the summer.

“Of course [I would stay longer], I love Chelsea,” Jorginho said, as relayed by The Sun.

“I feel very well here and of course, I’d like to stay.

“But you know, a lot is going on and we don’t know. I have a contract and I love to be here. So I don’t think about moving anywhere.

“Every single year [there’s speculation]. I don’t think like this. I just think about where I am and focus 100 per cent.”

Aware of the player’s desire to continue at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are reportedly ready to open talks with Jorginho over a renewal, but not before September.

The deep-lying playmaker could soon reunite with former Napoli teammate Kalidou Koulibaly after the Blues reignited their interest in the highly-rated centre-back.

But should he decide to sever ties with Chelsea, Juventus would be in the driver’s seat to escort him back to Serie A.
