Raheem Sterling has agreed personal terms with Chelsea as he edges closer to a move to Stamford Bridge, per the Telegraph.
The England international could join up with the Blues ahead of their upcoming pre-season tour of America as they now look to agree on a fee with Manchester City.
While the exact figures remain unknown, the 27-year-old is said to become the club’s highest earner after agreeing a deal slightly above his current £300,000-per-week at the Etihad Stadium.
Sterling struggled to pin down a regular starting role at Man City last season, and the arrival of the attacking duo of Erling Braut Haaland and Julian Alvarez could see the Englishman fall further down the pecking order.
Chelsea are keen on bolstering their squad ahead of the 2022-23 campaign, particularly at the attacking end of the pitch, where they have endured a lack of sting in recent seasons.
Off the back of a personally frustrating 2021-22 campaign leading Thomas Tuchel’s attack, Romelu Lukaku returned to Inter Milan on a season-long loan, while Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech have all been linked with a summer exit.
Sterling, who is keen on a fresh challenge, has been identified as Chelsea’s primary transfer target this summer as he offers new dynamics to their attack.
The former Liverpool forward has been linked with a move to the London outfit since the start of the transfer window. The deal is now down to the final stages, with a potential £45 million fee being discussed between the two clubs.
Sterling will be the first signing under their new Chelsea owners and the club’s first significant foray into the Premier League summer transfer window.
He has enjoyed a stellar seven-year stint at the Etihad since his £49m arrival from Liverpool, racking up 226 goal involvements in 339 appearances and helping the Cityzens win four Premier League titles, five Carabao Cups and the FA Cup on one occasion.
