Inter Milan set for talks with Chelsea to discuss Romelu Lukaku return

Inter Milan are planning for direct talks with Chelsea to discuss a potential return of Romelu Lukaku, reports Fabrizio Romano.

The Belgian striker has failed to live up to the expectations last season after sealing a record £97.5 million transfer from Nerazzurri to Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku has decided to leave the Blues this summer, and his priority turns out to be joining the Nerazzurri.

Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel appears to have given the nod for Lukaku’s departure, having looked down the former Manchester United striker largely during the 2021/22 campaign.

For Inter, their financial difficulties would be a stumbling block in re-signing Lukaku, and therefore, a loan move looks feasible.

The Nerazzurri have also identified free agent Paulo Dybala as a priority target for the summer, but they are also looking to add Lukaku to their ranks.

Elsewhere, Tuchel is looking for new signings under Todd Boehly’s ownership, as players like Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech seem to be not in the plans of the German gaffer.

Ousmane Dembele and Darwin Nunez are some of the reported targets, with the former available on a free transfer as his contract at Barcelona expires this month.

The feelings are that the French winger will not sign an extension, and Tuchel is keen on reuniting with him after working together at Borussia Dortmund.

There are also reports that the Blues could ask for Inter striker Lautaro Martinez as a part of Lukaku’s deal.

However, the chances are bleak as the Argentine striker, who enjoyed a prolific 2021/22 campaign, is not thinking of leaving San Siro, and he has often stated his commitment to Inter.
