Players With Most Champions League Titles

Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in the 2021/22 Champions League final has changed the landscape at the top of the list of most successful players in Champions League history.

Vinicius Junior’s second-half winner in the Paris showpiece has enabled Dani Carvajal, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric to join a distinguished group of players to have played in five Champions League title-winning finals.

Real Madrid’s Champions League winners

Former Madrid luminary Francisco Gento still tops the list with six victorious European Cup finals to his name, all of which came between 1956 and 1966.

In addition to Gento, two other Los Blancos icons, Alfredo Di Stefano and Jose Maria Zarraga, are close to the top of the list, having featured in five triumphant finals each.

As far as the current format of Europe’s most prestigious competition is concerned, Madrid players headline the list thanks to their record number of Champions League titles.

Cristiano Ronaldo won his maiden Champions League title in 2008 while at Manchester United before adding four more to the tally during his trophy-laden stint at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Merengues’ iconic victory in the 2018 showpiece against Liverpool saw the Portugal captain become the first player to win five Champions League crowns.

Benzema, the standout figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s record-breaking fourth Champions League title-winning campaign as a manager, has equalled Ronaldo’s record of five.

Four of Benzema’s five Champions League triumphs came as the reward for a prolific ‘BBC partnership,’ with this year’s success being his first without Ronaldo.

Marcelo, Toni Kroos, Lucas Vasquez, Casemiro and Gareth Bale have all won five Champions League titles, yet they only took part in four finals.

Their long-term teammate Natcho was part of five victorious Madrid squads, though he only featured in the 2018 showpiece.

Chelsea ace Mateo Kovacic has four Champions League trophies under his belt, including three with Los Blancos and one with the Blues.

However, he has recorded just one appearance in the final, back in 2018.

Other notable Champions League winners

Legendary AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini played his part in eight European Cup/Champions League finals, winning five of them, including two as a captain in 2003 and 2007.

Another Rossoneri great, Alessandro Costacurta, was crowned the European champion on five occasions.

However, he started just two and was absent from two as well.

Clarence Seedorf, who won four Champions League titles, still remains the only player in history to have won the crown with three different clubs, achieving that feat with Madrid, Milan and Ajax.

Barcelona midfield geniuses Andres Iniesta and Xavi, along with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, have four trophies to their names.

The same goes for Gerard Pique and Man United centre-back Raphael Varane.

Here we take a look at the ten players with the most wins in the Champions League finals.
