Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Villareal’s Arnaut Danjuma ahead of the upcoming transfer window, per Manchester Evening News.
The report adds that United are fond admirers of the Dutch winger but a move is unlikely to be made this summer due to the plethora of options that the Red Devils have in Danjuma’s preferred left-wing position.
Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani are both set to leave the club and Mason Greenwood is still unavailable for selection, so United want to sign at least one attacker when the market officially opens on June 10, although it is believed that a right-sided forward would be preferred.
The Old Trafford outfit were linked with a move for Danjuma last year before opting to land Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund instead with Danjuma ditching Bournemouth for the Estadio de la Cerámica.
While Sancho has struggled to impress in his debut campaign at the Theatre of Dreams, Danjuma has hit the ground running with the Yellow Submarine, racking up an impressive 16 goals in 34 games.
This included strikes against Juventus and Bayern Munich as Unai Emery’s men reached the semi-finals of Europe’s premier club competition where they fell to eventual runners-up Liverpool.
Despite ending up on the losing side, Danjuma was also voted man of the match in September’s group-stage clash between Villareal and Man United which ended 2-1.
With Villareal failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League following a seventh-place finish in La Liga, Danjuma could be up for grabs this summer with Tottenham Hotspur also keen on snapping him up.
The 25-year-old has a €45million release clause and he becomes the second Villareal player rumoured to be wanted by United, who have also been credited with an interest in Pau Torres.
