Leeds United have reportedly doubled their asking price for Raphinha, who has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.
The Catalan giants have been long touted as potential suitors for the Brazilian winger, with a verbal agreement also agreed.
The La Liga giants were hopeful of signing Raphinha for a cheaper fee as Leeds were at the risk of getting relegated during the final weeks.
However, Jesse Marsch’s side managed to beat the drop on the final matchday, beating Brentford 2-1 – in which Raphinha was on the scoresheet – to sustain their place in the Premier League next season.
According to Sport (via The Sun), Barca have to splurge around £40 million to acquire the services of Raphinha.
Despite the hefty fee, Blaugrana manager Xavi is expected to go ahead with the pursuit of the 25-year-old, as the Spanish gaffer is in dire need of attacking reinforcements.
Ousmane Dembele’s chapter with the Catalan giants appears to be over as he hasn’t responded to the renewal offer.
The Frenchman and his entourage are demanding an improved offer, which Barca are unable to afford due to their economic condition.
Paris Saint-Germain have been touted as the most likely destination, while Premier League giants Chelsea are also in the race.
Barca have identified Raphinha as an ideal replacement for Dembele in the event of the latter’s departure.
However, it remains to be seen whether Barca would be able to meet Raphinha’s price as their priority now turns out to be Robert Lewandowski, for whom Bayern Munich are also demanding around €40m.
While Barca have the advantage after agreeing personal terms with Raphinha, they need to act quickly since Premier League giants Manchester United are also said to be after the former Rennes star.
