Aston Villa are targetting a summer move for Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez, according to a report from The Telegraph.
The Uruguayan is no stranger to English football having played for Liverpool between 2010 and 2014 when he was a teammate of Villa manager Steven Gerrard as well as Philippe Coutinho, who recently completed a permanent move to Villa Park from Barcelona.
With Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos also set to join from Olympique Marseille and Sevilla respectively, Villa have already made three major signings ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
The Villans currently boast two recognised centre-forwards in Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings but remain keen on bolstering their options in attack even further.
Suarez said an emotional farewell to Los Colchoneros earlier this month after falling down the pecking order under Diego Simeone at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Despite now approaching the latter days of his career, Suarez wants to continue playing in one of Europe’s top five leagues, especially with the World Cup in Qatar to come at the end of the year.
“I have my head in Europe,” Suarez told Cadena Ser (h/t AS).
“Spain? Obviously one left a great legacy here, I’m very proud of the career I’ve had here.
“I have received some proposals from here [Spain], but I am analyzing them.
“I want to see the project of being able to compete at a high level.”
He also stated his desire to reunite with ex-teammate Lionel Messi in the nearest future after their successful stint together at Camp Nou where they formed one of the best ever attacking trios alongside Neymar.
“With Messi in a few years? Hopefully,” he added.
“On and off the pitch we’ve been good together.
“There is nothing better than seeing two colleagues happy outside so that they perform inside.”
