Napoli plan medicals for Getafe left-back Mathias Olivera ahead of summer move

Napoli are closing in on the signing of Getafe left-back Mathias Olivera, with medicals planned on Tuesday, reports Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The La Liga outfit’s president Angel Torres also confirmed that the agreemennt was reached between the two clubs over a summer deal.

Having reached personal terms in January, Partenopei could have signed Olivera then itself if Getafe had accepted a compensation fee.

The transfer operation will cost €11 million plus bonuses, while the Uruguayan left-back has agreed to a salary of €1.5m per season.

Olivera has become a key player for Getafe over the last two seasons, and he has made 32 appearances in La Liga this term with a goal and three assists.

His impressive club form also led to his debut with the Uruguayan national team earlier this year.

Mario Rui has been Luciano Spalletti’s preferred left-back in the 2021/22 campaign, appearing for 34 games in Serie A with six assists.

The former Roma manager wants to strengthen that position in the summer and has identified Olivera as an ideal target.

Olivera will be Partenopei’s second signing of the summer, with an agreement already reached for the transfer of Georgian winger Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Kvaratskhelia is expected to take the place of Lorenzo Insigne, who is set to join MLS outfit Toronto FC.

Spalletti’s men ended third in the Serie A table after a highly impressive campaign.

They must be feeling confident after ending the season on a high – four wins in their last four games.
