Manchester City identify three midfield targets including Barcelona star

Manchester City’s priority turns out to be the transfer of Erling Braut Haaland, with several reports claiming that Citizens have won the race for his signature.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that City will try to sign a midfielder once Haaland’s deal is secured.

The Italian journalist also names three potential targets City have identified: Paul Pogba, Frenkie de Jong and Matheus Nunes.

Pogba’s contract with Manchester United expires this summer, and he has decided against an extension, meaning he will leave for free.

Man City are exploring the possibilities of signing the French midfielder from their rival club, though they are expected to face heavy competition from Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG are keen to bring the 29-year-old to the capital club, having missed the opportunity last summer.

It was reported earlier that Les Parisiens’ sporting director Leonardo had met with Pogba ahead of a potential transfer in the summer.

De Jong’s name has also fallen on the radar of Man City after his exit rumours from Barcelona have been doing rounds in recent weeks.

However, City see the Dutchman as far from an ideal target due to his expensive valuation. Meanwhile, Xavi also shrugged off the exit speculations by stating that De Jong is a player for Barca’s future.

The Sky Blues are said to be keeping track of Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes, who has been impressive for the Portuguese side over the last two seasons.

The 23-year-old recently caught the attention after scoring for the Portuguese national team in the World Cup play-offs against Turkey.

Pep Guardiola appears to be a huge admirer of Nunes, whom he described as one of the best players in the world when City faced Sporting in the Champions League knockouts.

City will part ways with club legend Fernandinho at the end of this season, and Nunes looks a good addition to strengthen their midfield.
