Barcelona chief denies contact with Robert Lewandowski’s agent

Barcelona are understandably keen on signing Robert Lewandowski this summer, with the Polish striker ready to leave Bayern Munich due to the lack of progress regarding the contract talks.

The Catalan giants are said to be in continuous talks with Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi, and they have tabled an offer around €35m.

However, Barca’s sporting director Mateu Alemany has now played down the reports that the club had contacted Lewandowski’s entourage.

Alemany said, as relayed by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano: “There was no meeting with Lewandowski’s agent. Also, I don’t like to speak about the negotiations process – it’s something private.”

“We don’t like to discuss of players who are under contract with other clubs.”

Despite the increasing speculations, Bayern remian confident in extending their second all-time top scorer’s contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2023.

The Bavarians have reportedly opened talks with Zahavi about the renewal and planned for further in the coming weeks.

The Bundesliga champions are steadfast in their idea not to sell Lewandowski, but his salary demands could be a stumbling block.

The 33-year-old wants a pay rise in his new deal, which the Bavarians are contemplating due to his age, meanwhile they are also working on the renewals of Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Serge Gnabry.

Elsewhere, the Catalans are expected to continuously pursue the Pole, though they are yet to open talks with Bayern.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is also said to be open to moving to Camp Nou with the aim of winning the Ballon d’Or, which has been evading him in recent years.
